The quality of democracy in Poland (2014-2019)
Skřivánková, Paulina ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Salamon, Janusz (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the quality of democracy and the causes of its decline by comparing two consecutive periods. The analysis is mainly based on government policy, i.e., what actions of the government may have had an impact on the decline of the quality of democracy. In the first period between 2011 and 2015 ruled the coalition of two parties - PO and PSL. In the second period between 2015 and 2019 ruled the PiS party. In each period, five thematic headings are analyzed, based on the two most popular democracy indices created by Freedom House and The Economist Intelligence Unit, and on the academic literature. The examined thematic headings are the balance of power, the influence of the church on government policy, corruption and anti-corruption measures, transparent access to information and media, and citizens' trust in government. The findings of Freedom House and The Economist Intelligence Unit and primarily the findings of my analysis are then compared to see whether there has indeed been a decline in the quality of democracy in the areas of study. The analysis itself shows that the decline in the quality of democracy in the areas studied is mainly due to the distortion of the balance of power and the influence of media independence. The deterioration, although not as marked as in...

Limits of demokracy
Folková, Zsófia ; Kysela, Jan (advisor) ; Pithart, Petr (referee)
The central themes of the thesis are the limits of democracy, the qualities that distinguish it from other political regimes, the criteria necessary for its existence, and the character of the regimes that arise if one or more of these criteria are not met. The first part of the thesis presents fundamental concepts and theories that deal with these questions, the goal of the second part is to apply these theoretical considerations to a particular case, namely Hungary. The first part focuses primarily on the definition of democracy and non-democracy, on the functioning and characteristics of regimes in the "grey area" between democracy and authoritarianism, on the definitions of relevant terms and on the ways in which various theories of democracy, authoritarianism and hybrid regimes approach these concepts and definitions. The first chapter presents the theories of democracy that are relevant to the discussion about hybrid regimes: the minimalist concept, the procedural minimum and the extended procedural minimum. The second chapter focuses on the definition of the opposite of democracy, the third chapter presents a cognitive-linguistic approach to the links between democracy and authoritarianism. The last two chapters of the first part offer a brief overview of the theories of hybrid regimes and...
Analysis of the current opposition in Russia
Mašková, Denisa ; Dvořáková, Vladimíra (advisor) ; Klokava, Anfisa (referee)
The thesis focuses on analysis of the current opposition in Russia. Attention is mainly focused on the conditions for the existence and operation of the opposition created by the government's garniture, including the purposeful changes of the valid legislation and its influence on the state of the present opposition. Furthermore, the work aims to map key opposition parties and find out what the character of the current opposition is, whether it offers a liberal-democratic alternative to the existing regime or not. Last but not least, presented public opinion polls investigate whether there is room for opposition in society and what the society's attitude toward opposition is. This thesis is a contribution to discussion in the context of the nature of the current regime in Russia and the real possibilities for its change in the near future, because analysing the opposition is important for understanding of the system and its functioning, both in terms of conditions for its functioning, its embedding in society and ideological focus.

Cameron. The thesis will be focused on the fact whether the examined regime corresponds to one type of hybrid regimes based on criteria of the theoretical framework and whether it is the case of "neopopulism". As factors that could affect the form of Fujimori's regime there will be analysed campaigns of guerrilla groups Shining Path and MRTA and the solution of the economic crisis. The aim of the diploma thesis is the analysis of Fujimori's government, thus the finding, whether it is possible to mark the regime as hybrid and which type specifically. The thesis will use the method of comparative analysis for comparison purposes to compare countries where was or may be realized "autogolpe". Then there will be used a case study to describe the events that preceded the election of president Fujimori and then the description...

Votavová, Vladimíra ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Kolenovská, Daniela (referee)
The bachelor thesis entitled The State and Civil Society in Post-Soviet Russia deals with importance, growth and function of civil society in Russia after 1991. At the beginning, the thesis strives to identify Russian regime type which is influenced not only by communist experience but also by the process of transition to democracy. Both the Yeltsin's and the Putin's administration are seen through the hybrid regimes theory that alleges that they are short of rule of law and limitation of powers. Those aspects essentially shape the form and players of Russian civil society that are characterized as well. The thesis is also concerned with different perception of the civil society concept in Russia and in the Western context; it describes particular dissimilarities and mentions differences of Russian culture and social discourse. In the end, the thesis is focused on president Putin's politics towards civil society, its incentives and consequences.

Despite the constitutional limits of the former political system (1991-2000) changed only a little, nevertheless, the comprehensive reconsideration of the relations among the institutions of the executive, legislative, judicial power occurred; the centre's politics according to the regions was revised, the Party System changed. The work's aim is the Russian political system's analysis from 2000 to 2012 and specifically its seven components: (executive, legislative, judicial power, electoral system, party system, municipal government and the role of the apolitical factors) and the assessment of the examined political system if it is democratic or authoritarian. In this work the differences' consideration between the legal limits of the realized reforms and their real influence on the Russian Political System's functioning as a single whole. Officially the democratic State System is assigned in the Russia's Constitution, nevertheless, the real Russian democracy is often doubtful because of its system's components which contradict the democratic form of the government. Besides the prerequisites of the Russian Political System's successful transition to the full value democracy are estimated in this work. The functioning's peculiarities of the Russia's political system taking into consideration the generally accepted democratic standards are analyzed with the help of the chosen theoretic conceptions in the work's text.
